COMMUNITY RADIO: OUR PRIDE After many years of work, the community radio emerged in December 2003. Since then, it has been in never-ending expansion and it distinguishes itself by its dynamism in the community. The geographical and demographic situation of the village is particular. The village includes about two hundred inhabitants. The fact that it is not linked by road to the rest of Quebec’s territory, far away from the large centres and surrounded by English speaking villages, gives a special meaning to the word « isolation » that is characteristic of the region. The region is rugged, beautiful and generous, the forest and the sea embrace magnificent sunsets. However, it seems like life stopped in a space of time where people have to fight for their survival. By the nature of the cases and because of their background, the population is often described has being resourceful and versatile. Community Radio creates a link, a community sense of belonging shaped to the needs of its population. A schedule lets all the space for any unexpected change. We do not want to fall under any rigid stereotype that could affect the spontaneity of the magic moments that pass by. The people of Tête-à-la-Baleine are proud of their community radio station.
PROGRAMMING TO SERVE YOU
YOUR CJTB RADIO … IN PICTURESSince its beginnings, the community radio of Tête-à-la-Baleine has been contributing to the social and cultural development and also to the economy. It favours the accessibility and participation to community Medias and it diversifies its activities as much for young people as for the elderly.
Besides our daily programs, the radio underlines the birthdays and wedding anniversaries. It is not possible not to have a special program for the International Day for the Elderly and for our young people: Halloween, Christmas, etc., everything is an excuse for a celebration. All is hosted by Patricia Carrier, animator and Mireille Monger, manager. « Insertion PHOTO DE PATRICIA ET MIREILLE à venir » Despite the decay of the population, we are sure to have a relief force because during the summer young people of the community are invited, with our student, to become co-animator for one day. The formula has made its case and that has been there for two years.
Do you have a taste for adventure? For three consecutive years, the radio has been welcoming a student from the Cégep in Jonquière for a period of five weeks, a gratifying experience… Notice to the interested people. « Between teenagers (Entre Ados) » you know ? It is a program created and completely designed by the secondary students of Gabriel-Dionne school. Every Thursday evening, they help us discover their own musical style and their ever present dynamism.
A community radio does not sleep on its success, many fundraisers are implemented to insure the operations of the radio. Just to name a few, we cannot forget the traditional bingo which is broadcasted every Wednesday evening as well as the radiothon organized twice a year.
