Poets CornerFrom Lnscommunityradio[edit] Phenomenal Woman by Maya AngelouPretty women wonder where my secret lies. I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size But when I start to tell them, They think I'm telling lies. I say, It's in the reach of my arms The span of my hips, The stride of my step, The curl of my lips. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me.

[edit] Whose child is this? by an unknown author"Whose child is this?" I asked one day Seeing a little one out at play "Mine", said the parent with a tender smile "Mine to keep a little while To bathe his hands and comb his hair To tell him what he is to wear To prepare him that he may always be good And each day do the things he should" "Whose child is this?" I asked again As the door opened and someone came in "Mine", said the teacher with the same tender smile "Mine, to keep just for a little while To teach him how to be gentle and kind To train and direct his dear little mind To help him live by every rule And get the best he can from school" "Whose child is this?" I ask once more Just as the little one entered the door "Ours" said the parent and the teacher as they smiled And each took the hand of the little child "Ours to love and train together Ours this blessed task forever."
[edit] In Flanders Fields by: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918) Canadian ArmyIN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
[edit] The Sea by Lillian RoseThe sea, the sea: calling out to you and me Waves rush in to caress the sand Only to roll out again The sea, the sea: calmness in its water But in one fowl swoop The calm has turned sour The sea, the sea: breezes clear as day Salty air meets our lips Longer, will we stay? The sea, the sea: soft sand beneath our feet Breeze cooling our hot hands One look at your eyes and I Know The sea, the sea: our ally and friend The seascape drawing us in In triumph, two sweethearts together Creating Minstrels in the sand.
[edit] A poem for my mother by Abbygail WellmanI can't begin to show you The love I have for you in my heart You've been my mother, my friend, and my pal Right from the very start You gave me strength when I needed it And hope and courage too You sacrificed so much for me Like only a mother would do I know in my heart there was times That I haven’t measured up to par But I love you with all my heart and soul For the wonderful mother that you are

[edit] Growing Old by Author UnknownLife begins for you or I, When the doctor slaps and out comes a cry. Then it's get a bath and some food for the tummy, And then get all wrapped up Just like a mummy. For the next several months as they go by, All we do is eat and sleep and cry. All of a sudden with no warning of any kind, We're sitting up and crawling and trying to climb. Cutting teeth and saying Goo, Are some of the other first things we all did do. The day was great when we first did walk, But nothing like it was when we began to talk. Having learned both of these, We next were taught thank you sir and if you please. The months went by as we did grow, But from Christmas to Christmas was very slow. Sunday School as we did know, Was where our parents made us go. The next six years the games we do not play, For it's study, study and learn, learn every day. High School then is our next step, And though we think we know it all and we're each quite hip. We soon find out there's a lot more to know, Why we haven't learned what makes an auto go. Learning this was truly a thrill, But it is a definite wonder how we missed being killed. One of the greatest wonders of the world, Is when a boy meets a girl. This was the life there was no doubt, A high school student, with a date and a car to run about. These years that brought about so much fun, Seemed to pass much faster than any other one. Usually it is somewhere about here, That most of us go searching for a career. As we go along life's merry way, We soon find we must live it by the day. We can plan for tomorrow if that's what we wish, But we must live it by the day or there's a lot we're gonna miss. To unite with a husband or a wife, Whichever is proper according to life. This is the greatest blessing that will ever come to you, If you love her ans she loves you too. The next best blessing if it should come to be, Is for that pair, someday would become three. Now with a family no matter the size, The time that used to move so slow begins to show how fast it flies. It is one of the saddest things that life does bare, When it all turns white or you have no hair. Another way for use to measure fleeing time, Is when the teeth we use are really not mine. There's many ways of measuring time but theres one that we all agree, Is proof beyond any doubt, that we're very rapidly becoming history. And a wish for you and a wish for I, I wish the sandman will pass us by. |
